Founded in 2016 in Denpasar City, Bali, ANALTOPSY has spent nearly a decade cultivating a sound that fuses death metal ferocity with massive grooves and just enough technical precision to keep listeners guessing. What started as a raw, DIY project has now matured into a sonic juggernaut poised for international impact. Their latest release, “Intense Digestive Release”, marks a pivotal moment in their evolution—and it’s not for the faint of heart.
“Intense Digestive Release” showcases both relentless brutality and groove—how do you balance technical precision with the primal aggression that slam demands?
Honestly, we just want to sound as fast, brutal, and heavy as possible. The technical stuff is more like seasoning—it’s there, but it’s not the main dish. We grew up obsessed with Abominable Putridity "The Anomalies of Artificial Origin"—that’s where some of the technicality comes from. But the most important influence is "In the End of Human Existence"—we’re in love with that album. That’s our primal force. So our musical direction leans more toward raw savagery and crushing groove rather than overly complex playing.
Your sound clearly pays homage to bands like Visceral Disgorge and Jasad. What elements do you consciously pull from your influences, and where do you intentionally diverge to define Analtopsy's own voice?
Jasad is easily one of the fastest, heaviest, and most brutal bands from Indonesia, and we’re deeply inspired by them—we want to follow in their footsteps in the local death metal scene. Visceral Disgorge, on the other hand, has that chunky, groovy riff style we absolutely love. If you listen to our tracks, you’ll definitely catch those influences. So yeah, Analtopsy was kind of born from the womb of these two major inspirations. But we always deliver it through our own voice, energy, and chaos.
Being based in Denpasar, Bali, how has the Indonesian metal scene shaped Analtopsy’s identity, both musically and culturally?
The metal scene in Indonesia is massive—probably one of the biggest in Asia. That kind of environment really fuels our drive to create. Every month there’s a new band dropping killer releases, and that keeps the fire alive. After more than a decade of grinding, we finally released our debut EP—definitely a huge milestone for us. As for identity, we just want to be the loudest, fastest, most brutal, and heaviest band we can be. But we don’t force anything—we let it flow naturally, based on what we’re capable of. The most important thing is staying honest in our music, bringing our own flavor, and above all—having fun.
The track “Squirming” stands out for its songwriting structure. How important is memorability in slam, a genre often associated with pure chaos?
Honestly, we’re just playing basic 4/4 quick math—but with some totally unnecessary twists 😄. With Squirming, we wanted to capture chaotic energy while still keeping it tight and structured. We added our own blend of groove and slam to make it feel like us. We’ve always been drawn to weird, absurd, and unexpected ideas—and that definitely shows up in the way we write. One moment it’s full-speed blasting, then it crashes into slow, slamming grooves. We always aim to include a hook—something that grabs you and makes your head move. Even though slam is often linked with pure chaos, memorability still matters. Without it, a track just flies by and disappears. We want every riff to leave a scar.
Given your DIY roots and now international reach through Lethal Scissor Records, what advice would you give to extreme bands in Southeast Asia trying to break onto the global stage?
They’re already doing amazing work—just keep grinding! Horns up! IDDM forever!! (Indonesian Death Metal) In death we trust, in brutality we blast. Keep the spirit alive, stay brutal, and never be afraid to put your music out into the world.
If you had to describe your EP using only breakfast foods, what would each track be and why?
The first track is milk. The rest of the tracks? Rujak. If you’ve ever had milk with spicy Indonesian fruit salad (rujak) for breakfast, then you know—it’s going to wreck your day in the most intense way possible.
In an alternate universe where “Excrement Inhaling Ritual” is a cooking show, what’s the secret ingredient?
You can probably guess—it’s very closely related to our band name 😄. Let’s just say it’s a mix of acidic fluids and high-temperature fermented waste… The perfect recipe for an extreme culinary ritual, Analtopsy-style.
ANALTOPSY’s debut EP is now streaming and available through Lethal Scissor Records. Dive in if you dare—but don’t expect to come out the same.
